Safe Routes to School

Grant solicitation results

Through a competitive solicitation, the MnDOT Safe Routes to School program funds projects that make it so youth in Minnesota can safely, confidently, and conveniently walk, bike, and roll to school and in daily life. These grants fund infrastructure improvements, planning assistance, and SRTS implementation work (Boost grants). The scoring process and criteria vary by grant type but can be accessed in the grant application guide.

2024-25 Solicitation Award Recommendations

SRTS School District Coordinators - $1.5 million available over 3 years

Overview: Funding for a school district to hire a SRTS Coordinator to rapidly implement their SRTS plan across numerous schools, maintain a SRTS Committee, and address policy or systems changes at a School District level. Supporting infrastructure changes by building strong partnerships between the school district and city and/or county roadway authorities. This is the second solicitation for SRTS Coordinators since 2019 which used federal funds.

2021-22 SRTS Infrastructure Solicitation

A total of $7.5 million was available for the 2021-22 SRTS infrastructure solicitation. Applications for this solicitation were separated into five funding pools as described below. The total grant amount in each funding pool reflects the percentage of Minnesotans living within all eligible communities of each funding pool. Please note that the total amount of grant funding awarded in each funding pool was not based on the total number of applications received for each funding pool.
