How we select highway construction projects
Project selection is the decision to add a project to the list of planned and programmed projects. This selection is just one decision point in a long series of decisions that shape what ultimately gets constructed.
MnDOT does not currently have enough funding to address all priorities and needs on the state highway system, especially for projects that enhance mobility and add capacity. With an $19-27 billion projected funding gap over the next 20 years, the agency must make challenging decisions about which projects to fund. Our aim is ensure that selected projects statewide support the direction and outcomes outlined in the 20-year state highway investment plan.
