Northbound I-35W ramp and I-94 lane closures begin Sept. 2
ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Beginning at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2 until Friday, Sept. 26, the Minnesota Department of Transportation will close the ramp from northbound Interstate 35W to eastbound I-94 as part of the I-94 bridge work in Minneapolis. Both directions of I-94 will also be reduced to three lanes between I-35W and Huron Blvd. during this time.
Motorists can bypass the ramp closure using northbound I-35W, eastbound Highway 36, southbound I-35E, and I-94.
The lane and ramp closures are necessary to allow crews to remove the crossovers that were used to shift traffic during bridge maintenance and repair work.
All I-94 lanes and ramps within the project area will be open for the winter. However, travelers can expect periodic lane closures in spring 2026 when crews apply a deck sealant to the restored bridges.
All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather dependent and subject to change. MnDOT urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution and slow down in work zones where workers are present.
When construction is completed, five bridges along I-94 will have a smoother and safer riding surface.
