Highway 10 Wadena detour lifts and reopens Aug. 29
Highway 71 detour extends north
BAXTER, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Transportation will reopen Highway 10 in Wadena on the evening of Friday, Aug. 29, as the detour is lifted. After the Labor Day holiday, the Highway 71 closure and detour will extend north of Wadena to begin the next phase of construction.
Highway 10: Aug. 29 to Nov. 1
- Highway 10 will remain an active work zone with one lane each way between Highway 71 in Wadena and 620th Street near Bluffton.
- Motorists should expect narrow lanes, no shoulders and lane shifts.
- Please slow down, watch for workers and equipment and navigate with caution.
- Shoulder closures and slow-moving trucks may be present near Oink Joint Road as off-road work continues on the east end of the project.
Highway 71: Sept. 2 to mid-October
- The detour will extend north of Wadena. Highway 71 will be closed to through traffic between Highway 10 and Leaf River Road.
- Drivers will be detoured via Highway 10, Wadena County Road 20 and Leaf River Road.
- Watch for a temporary all-way stop at County Road 20 and Juniper Avenue.
Wadena is open for businesses, residents and visitors; however, expect changes throughout the work zones. Segments of hard closures and use of alternate accesses will be necessary at times to work beneath the road; follow construction signs, enter/exit nearest your destination and stay out of barricaded areas.
When complete in August 2027, travelers will benefit from a smoother, stronger and expanded four-lane highway; improved safety, access and traffic flow through Wadena; and updated underground infrastructure and city utilities.
