Hwy 71/19 shoulder repairs begin Aug. 11: pilot car in operation
WILLMAR, Minn. —Beginning Aug. 11, crews will repair shoulders along both sides of Hwy 71/19 from 340th Street east of Redwood Falls to the Hwy 71/19 split in Morton, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
When crews are present, travelers will be directed through the work zone by a pilot car for approximately four weeks, Monday through Thursday. Crews may be present from 6:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., and if needed, Fridays will be added to the work schedule.
Travelers are asked to slow down in the project area and be alert for workers directing traffic.
While most shoulder repairs will use gravel, some shoulders will be paved with asphalt, such as those with curb and gutter, and along slopes. Paving operations will begin around Sept. 9 and use a pilot car to direct traffic through the work zone.
Benefits of the project include enhanced safety along the corridor. Work is expected to conclude mid-to-late September, depending on weather and other unforeseeable circumstances.
