I-35 northbound overnight closure in Hinckley Wednesday, July 2

DULUTH, Minn. –  The Minnesota Department of Transportation will be closing I-35 northbound near Hinckley to complete shoulder repairs in the work zone the evening of Wednesday, July 2. The interstate will be closed and detoured starting at 10 p.m. and is expected to reopen at midnight.

Northbound I-35 traffic will exit at Highway 23 West (Exit 180) and travel west on Highway 23 to north on Pine County Road 61 into the City of Hinckley to east on Highway 48 then returning to northbound I-35. Detour signage will be in place.

Work zone safety tips

  • Obey posted speed limits. The fine for speeding in a work zone is $300.
  • Drive undistracted. Avoid using cell phones, mobile devices, adjusting the radio – even eating –while in work zones.
  • Move over. Give workers room to safely complete their work.

  • Be patient. Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
  • Do the  zipper merge.
  • Avoid making unnecessary lane changes.
  • Never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.
