Single-lane traffic starts April 21 on Highway 169 in Princeton

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Transportation asks commuters to add to their travel time and expect changes as Highway 169 reduces to one lane in each direction to prepare for future bridge work in Princeton beginning Monday, April 21.

Crews will prepare the work zone between Baxter Road and 313th Avenue. Travelers will encounter lane shifts, reduced speeds, single-lane traffic, no shoulders and sudden stops or delays at busy times until late May, as follows:

  • Northbound Highway 169:  Reduced to one lane, 24-7, each week from 7 a.m. Monday to 10 a.m. Friday. All lanes open over the weekend.
  • Southbound Highway 169:  Reduced to one lane, 24-7, each week from 7 a.m. Monday to 7 p.m. Saturday. All lanes open on Sunday.

This six-month $7.3 million project will repair and replace the concrete wearing surface on eight bridges—four each way—over North Rum River Drive (Mille Lacs County Road 29), the West Branch Rum River, First Street (Sherburne County Road 31) and South Rum River Drive (Sherburne County Road 29).

MnDOT reminds motorists to slow down and obey posted speeds and to do the zipper merge by using both lanes until the single-lane merge point.

When open in fall 2025, the bridges will provide a smoother travel surface, extend the life of the structures and improve storm water drainage.
