Prepare for delays and back-ups on Hwy 25 in Monticello as bridge work begins July 8

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Transportation advises those who travel on Highway 25 through Monticello to be prepared for delays and back-ups as crews begin to resurface and update the Mississippi River bridge on Monday, July 8. The work will impact travel in the area.

Overall, Highway 25 will be reduced to one lane, each direction, 24-7, at the bridge for the full duration of the project between July 8 and late October 2024. Traffic will merge and shift to either side of the highway through the work zone from Third Street to northeast of Sherburne County Road 11/14.

Access will be maintained; however, expect these changes:

  • River Street will close to/from Highway 25 and the signal will be deactivated
  • Turn/through lanes to be modified to improve traffic flow at Sherburne County Road 11/14 and Wright County Road 75/Broadway Avenue

Please be patient and watch for sudden stops as travelers learn the work zone the first week. MnDOT will monitor signals and adjust accordingly.
Travelers who commute frequently between Interstate 94 in Monticello and Highway 10 in Big Lake or Becker will want to plan ahead and consider alternate Mississippi River crossings in central Minnesota—Highway 24 Clear Lake to Clearwater to the north and Highway 101 Elk River to Rogers to the south.

When complete in late October, the $2.6 million bridge improvement project will provide travelers with a smoother ride, widened sidewalks and updated storm water drainage.
