Lane closures on Interstate 94 between Dalton and Ashby begin June 24

DETROIT LAKES, Minn. — Starting Monday, June 24, weather permitting, motorists will encounter lane closures in both directions on Interstate 94 between Dalton and Ashby, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. Crews will install traffic control devices and begin building crossovers for the upcoming bridge replacement project on eastbound I-94.

Once the crossovers are in place, in approximately two weeks, eastbound traffic will be directed onto the westbound lanes while crews begin work on the eastbound I-94 bridge. Through November, there will be one-lane head-to-head traffic through the project area, between Dalton and Ashby.

In 2024 and 2025, crews will be replacing the two existing metal culverts at the Pelican Creek, just west of the County Road 4 overpass bridge, with span beam bridges. This year, crews will construct the bridge on the eastbound side, which is scheduled to be completed in November. They’ll return in the spring of 2025 to construct the westbound bridge.

RR Schroeder Construction, Inc., based in Glenwood, Minn., is the prime contractor for the $5.7 million project. For more information, visit the project website at mndot.gov/d4/projects/94bridges-pelicancreek.

All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather dependent and subject to change. MnDOT urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution and slow down in work zones where workers are present.
