Highway 93 Henderson construction update

MANKATO, Minn. – Construction on Highway 93 between Henderson and Highway 169 is progressing, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Weather permitting, pile driving operations are expected to begin sometime next week, for approximately two weeks. Pile driving can create significant noise; therefore, operations will be conducted during daytime hours to minimize disruptions for residents who live near the highway. The work is necessary to install piles that will support a concrete box culvert just south of the levee in Henderson.

Construction on the Highway 93 project has been limited due to the wet spring. However, crews have been able to work on pavement removal, topsoil stripping, initial grading, and rip rap (rock) installation near the Henderson levee. Additionally, progress has been made on tree clearing operations, erosion control, and temporary drainage installation along the highway.

Highway 93 has been closed since April 15 with traffic detoured to Highways 169 and 19. Construction for the project is anticipated to continue through 2026. Schedules are subject to change depending upon weather and other unforeseeable circumstances.
The project includes:

  • Raising Highway 93 approximately eight feet, putting it one foot above historic high-water events
  • Reconstructing 3.6 miles of Highway 93 from Highway 169 to Elm St. in Henderson
  • Replacing the Rush River Bridge
  • Constructing an additional overflow bridge to allow for Rush River flood relief

MnDOT reminds motorists to avoid going around barricades or entering the construction area due to safety.

S.M. Hentges & Sons was awarded the project with a bid of $30,606,833.65.
