Highway 252/I-94 Environmental Review

Brooklyn Center, Brooklyn Park and Minneapolis

Project Manager Newsletter

July 2025

I hope you all are enjoying summer so far! It has been super busy for me and my family with many soccer games and tournaments (we even came to Brooklyn Park for a tournament!), visiting family and friends, and enjoying our fresh veggies from our local farmer.

This month I would like to mention some of what we are hearing from the engagement we did for Phase 1B Hwy 252 Access Combinations. As of July 11th, we have seen 1,941 views on the story map that features interactive maps and evaluation results of Phase 1B. We also received 176 survey responses. In that survey, we asked for your responses to statements on decision factors such as:

  • Minimizing property relocations – 72% agreed
  • Improving safety by reducing elements that can lead to crashes– 94% agreed
  • Reducing emergency response times for neighborhoods along Hwy 252 – 82% agreed

Thank you so much for listening in on the Policy Advisory Committee (PAC) meeting and virtual open house in May, coming out to join us at the in-person open houses in early June, and taking the time to fill out the survey!  You can go view the presentations from the virtual meetings on the Meetings tab.

The top five survey themes (listed in order based on number of mentions) include:

  • Traffic congestion and flow
  • Neighborhood access and connectivity
  • Safety and accidents
  • Infrastructure and road design
  • Property and environmental impact

These open-ended comments are still being compiled and will be reviewed by the project team. We continue to look for substantive comments or those that include things we missed during the evaluation of Phase 1B.

Question of the month: Will my input make a difference?

We’re committed to collecting input from the community throughout every phase of this study. Your feedback is incredibly important to us, and we truly appreciate the time and thought you’ve put into sharing your perspectives. Our team takes every comment seriously, whether it comes through a comment card, online form, email, phone call, or letter. We carefully review and evaluate each piece of feedback to identify substantial input or changes we can incorporate during the current phase of the study. This thorough review process ensures that community voices are heard and considered as we work to balance public input with technical requirements and the environmental review process. Your engagement is essential to developing the best solutions, so we encourage you to stay involved and continue sharing your thoughts.
