About this project
Summary of work
MnDOT has completed its study of the Hwy 169 corridor through Hibbing from Hwy 37 to 13th Street East. In this stretch, there are 4 signalized intersections, 6 partial controlled intersections and other accesses to Hwy 169.
The corridor study included traffic, safety and cost analysis and three rounds of public, stakeholder and agency meetings to gather feedback throughout the process. While no project is planned at this time, these recommendations will be used to inform MnDOT and the City of Hibbing on any future improvements made along the Hwy 169 corridor through Hibbing. Once a project is planned, more detailed design and public engagement will take place.
Recommendations for the Hwy 169 corridor include
- A roundabout at the 37th Street intersection
- A reduced conflict intersection (J-turn) at the 31st Street intersection
- A roundabout at the 25th Street intersection
- A roundabout or reduced conflict intersection (J-turn) at the 23rd Street intersection
- A roundabout at the Howard Street intersection
- A roundabout at the 13th Street intersection
- Various median closures and frontage road realignments throughout the corridor
