Environmental process
Environmental Review
Environmental review assesses a project’s potential environmental impacts by following the decision-making processes established in the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), the Minnesota Environmental Policy Act (MEPA), and other federal and state environmental laws to determine whether it meets federal, state, and local environmental standards.
Environmental Commitments
Environmental commitments are mitigation activities and public commitments made during National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and Minnesota Environmental Policy Act (MEPA) processes, environmental permit requirements, and other legal and regulatory requirements related to environmental compliance. This method of tracking environmental commitments from project scoping, into project design, and through construction, is necessary:
- Ensure that environmental commitments are maintained throughout project delivery
- Comply with federal law and FHWA oversight requirements
- Build and maintain trust between MnDOT and its regulators, partners, and stakeholders
