I-94 weekend closure postponed again due to anticipated adverse weather conditions

Weekend closure for bridge construction is rescheduled for February 6-8, 2026

ROSEVILLE, Minn. — Due to anticipated frigid temperatures and snowy weather this weekend, officials have again postponed the planned closure of I-94 scheduled this weekend (January 23-25). If weather cooperates, the city of St. Paul will close the interstate and set beams for the new Kellogg Blvd/3rd Street bridge the weekend of Friday, Feb. 6 through Sunday, Feb. 8. During the early February work, both directions of Interstate 94 will close from 10 p.m. Friday evening, Feb. 6 until 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8. Beginning at 8 p.m. on Friday, there will be single lane closures in both directions of the interstate. The westbound lanes of the interstate will then fully close at 10 p.m. between Highway 61/Mounds Blvd. and Highway 52/Lafayette Freeway followed by a full closure of the eastbound interstate at 10 p.m. from Highway 52/Lafayette Freeway to Highway 61. Further details will be shared as the date approaches.

The early February weekend closure will allow city of St. Paul construction crews to deliver and set beams for the new Kellogg Blvd./3rd Street bridge over the interstate east of downtown St. Paul. The Kellogg Blvd./3rd Street bridge closed July 24, 2024. The city of St Paul is replacing the bridge to address the need for a more reliable connection to the city that will accommodate people walking, biking, taking transit, and driving. The project is expected to be complete in the fall of 2027.

We appreciate your patience during this bridge project. Plan ahead by checking 511, and give yourself additional time to reach your destination.
