Closure, detour of Viking Boulevard at Hwy 65 in East Bethel scheduled May 16-20

Motorists directed to follow posted detours

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Construction crews will restrict Highway 65 traffic and close Viking Boulevard at Highway 65 later this week to continue building the new reduced conflict intersection in East Bethel. The closures will start Thursday morning, May 16 and last until early Monday, May 20, 2019

Beginning at 7 a.m. on Thursday, May 16, northbound Highway 65 at Viking Boulevard will be restricted to a single lane. After morning rush hour at 9 a.m., southbound Highway 65 will also be restricted to a single lane. Viking Boulevard will close at Highway 65 beginning at 10 a.m.

All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, May 20, weather permitting.

While Viking Boulevard is closed, motorists will follow a signed detour for Viking Boulevard and to travel between Highway 65 and Viking Boulevard. Maps of the detour and further information about the project is available on the Highway 65 RCI website at mndot.gov/metro/projects/hwy65rci.

Construction of the state’s first signalized RCI at Viking Boulevard and Highway 65 in East Bethel began in mid-April and will be completed before the July Fourth holiday weekend. It is one of four RCIs being built this year in East Bethel and Ham Lake. Work is also underway at the intersection of Highway 65 and 153rd Avenue in Ham Lake.

The two-year project, which began last year, also rebuilt 157th Avenue in Ham Lake and 187th Avenue in East Bethel and lengthened left turn lanes along the highway between 85th Avenue in Spring Lake Park and Sims Road in East Bethel during the 2018 construction season.

Construction of RCIs and longer turn lanes will improve safety and mobility on the Highway 65 corridor between 85th Avenue in Spring Lake Park and Sims Road in East Bethel.
