I-94 West closure at Lowry Tunnel planned for Oct. 4 canceled

Roseville, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Transportation has canceled an overnight closure of Interstate 94 west at the Lowry Hill Tunnel planned to start at 10 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4.

Crews were able to complete their work installing curb, permanent striping and lighting by Tuesday morning.

MnDOT crews will still need single-lane closures overnight to complete work in and near the tunnel.  Maintenance crews will need a full, overnight closure of both directions of the Lowry Tunnel next week to clean.

The work is part of the I-94 Minneapolis to Brooklyn Center project that started March 20. The $46 million project included resurfacing nine miles of freeway, fixing 50 bridges, ramp repairs and repairs to the Lowry Hill and Portland Avenue tunnels. Much of the work is complete.

Crews will continue making improvements on I-94 through October and will return in spring of 2018 for some ramp and bridge work. The project is expected to be complete by July of 2018.
