I-90 Austin lane closures begin May 15 for 11th Drive NE bridge replacement
ROCHESTER, Minn. — Motorists on Interstate 90 and in the city of Austin will encounter lane closures beginning Monday, May 15 as work to replace the 11th Drive NE bridge in Austin begins, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Motorists will be restricted to single-lane traffic in each direction on I-90 at Austin near exit 179.
Work from May 15-31 will include culvert and other underground work. This phase of the project will also cause some short temporary road closures on 10th Place NE and 8th Avenue NE.
Crews will begin bridge removal work on June 2. MnDOT will announce specific times and detour in advance.
The new bridge will be widened to accommodate two 12-foot lanes, two 8-foot shoulders and a 10-foot sidewalk. The existing roadway alignment will remain the same. Work on the project includes grading, paving, bridge replacement and shared use trail and drainage improvements. The project should be complete by Oct. 2. Lunda Construction is the prime contractor for the $2.97 million project.
