New Hwy 28/29 detour begins in Glenwood today
Minnesota Avenue/Franklin Street intersection to close for Phase 3 of Complete Streets project
DETROIT LAKES, Minn. – Motorists on Highways 28/29 in Glenwood will encounter a new detour starting today, Thursday, June 28, as crews begin removing pavement, and replacing utilities and sidewalk.
The project is part of the Glenwood Complete Streets project. This third phase of the project involves closing the intersection of Highway 28/Minnesota Avenue and Highway 29/Franklin Street, up to a block and a half north near Sacred Heart Church.
Traffic will be directed to First Street West, First Avenue South, First Street East and Second Avenue North. Parking will be restricted along the detour routes to accommodate traffic movements.
Weather permitting, this phase of the project is expected to be completed by the end of July, prior to Waterama.
Upon overall project completion, motorists will experience a smoother road surface; pedestrian accessibility improvements, including upgraded sidewalks and curb ramps; utility upgrades; and flood mitigations on Highway 28 near the Pope County Fairgrounds.
