Reconstruct interchange

Begins mid-summer 2026

MnDOT will reconstruct and improve the Hwy 24 interchange at I-94 in Clearwater, Wright County, includes roundabouts and a new bridge in 2026-2027. Hwy 24 will remain open to traffic at most times with the exception of some overnight closures for bridge work.

Summary of work

  • Build a new Hwy 24 bridge over I-94, southeast of the current bridge
  • Reconstruct Hwy 24 from Wright Co. Rd. 145 (179th St.) to Smith St.
  • Improve access and traffic flow with:
    • Two roundabouts at the I-94 westbound and eastbound ramps
    • A teardrop-style roundabout at Hwy 24 and Wright Co. Rd. 145
    • New road approaches at Ash St. and Nelson Dr.
  • Extend the concrete sidewalk (along southbound Hwy 24) and the multi-use trail (along northbound Hwy 24) between Co. Rd. 145 and Co. Rd. 75
  • Connect with Wright County’s roundabout project at Hwy 24 and Co. Rd. 7

Work mainly along Hwy 24:

  • Construct new bridge southeast of current structure
  • Widen areas along the road, construct temporary connections for 2027 work
  • Remove old bridge
  • Lane or shoulder closures, narrow lanes and/or lane shifts in the Hwy 24 work zone
  • Some Hwy 24 overnight closures at I-94 with detour (Google) to complete bridge work: place steel girders, pour the concrete deck, remove old bridge over I-94
    • Hwy 24 detour uses Co. Rd. 75 Clearwater, Co. Rd. 8 Hasty and Co. Rd. 39 back to Hwy 24 north of Annandale
  • Changes to access
  • Reduced speeds
Spring - fall 2027

Reconstruct road, connections:

  • Road surface, medians, on-off ramps, roundabouts, side street approaches, multi-use trail, storm drainage structures, road markings and sign, turf and any other necessary repairs

Construct under traffic:

  • Lane or shoulder closures, narrow lanes and/or lane shifts in the Hwy 24 work zone
  • Changes to access and use of temporary or alternate entrances or exits
  • Reduced speeds

Hwy 24 at Co. Rd. 7

Wright County to construct a new roundabout on Hwy 24 and Co. Rd. 7 in Clearwater in 2026. Schedule yet to be determined. Funding yet to be secured.

Tentative impacts:

  • Hwy 24: Narrow lanes with no shoulders while the roundabout is built
  • Wright Co. Rd. 7 access may be detoured
