Hwy 53 relocation project to delay project dedication
VIRGINIA, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Transportation’s Highway 53 relocation project team today announced that it will delay the road opening and dedication ceremony. The date and time of the ceremony will be announced in the next two weeks. The event will likely occur in mid-September.
“We’ve had significant rain in the region this summer,” said Pat Huston, MnDOT project director. “The wet conditions have slowed us down with some of the excavation, paving and other earth work.”
Huston added that this is a minor delay, and pointed out that the project is still ahead of schedule.
“When we started the project, we anticipated an October 2017 opening. The September opening still puts us more than a month ahead of schedule. In all of our projects, weather can be a significant factor.”
In the next couple of weeks, the project will announce more details regarding the dedication event. For more information, visit the project website at: www.mndot.gov/d1/projects/hwy53relocation.
