Hwy 135 detour route changes Monday on Hwy 53 project
Coffee and Conversation scheduled for Aug. 3
VIRGINIA, Minn. — Motorists will encounter a new detour route on Monday, July 31 on the Hwy 53 relocation project.
At 9 a.m. Monday, the detour route changes so it follows Hwy 53 south to Hwy 37, and then east to Gilbert. Hwy 135 will be open between Gilbert and Landfill Road, but there will be no direct access to Hwy 53.
As part of the new detour, workers will install a 3-way stop at the end of the southbound ramp from Hwy 53 onto Hwy 37. The stop sign will provide safer conditions when there is heavy traffic. The detour will allow crews to complete a new interchange for Hwy 53 and Hwy 135. The detour will be in effect until the end of the project in the coming months.
The Second Avenue detour will remain in place and the route follows second Avenue, 8th Street South, and South 12th Avenue West. A map showing the detour route is on the project website. The Second Avenue detour will be in place until the project opens to traffic.
On Aug 3, the project will conduct its monthly Coffee and Conversation project update at 10 a.m. at MnDOT’s Virginia headquarters, 101 N. Hoover Road, Virginia, MN. Project staff will provide details on progress and schedule.
