"Tow truck" or "towing vehicle" means a motor vehicle having a manufacturer's gross vehicle weight rating of 8,000 pounds or more, equipped with a crane and winch, or an attached device used exclusively to transport vehicles, and further equipped to control the movement of the towed or transported vehicle. See Minnesota Statute 168B.11.12a.

Allows tow trucks to exceed weight and length limitations when towing a disabled or damaged vehicle to a place of repair or safekeeping. This permit covers all tow trucks owned by the permittee. See Minnesota Statute 168B.15 and Minnesota Statute 169.829 subdivision 2 for legal requirements.
