MnDOT to host May 6 open house in Pipestone for Hwy 23 bridge and resurfacing project

WILLMAR, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Transportation invites the public to attend an in-person construction open house on Monday, May 6, to learn about the upcoming Highway 23 Pipestone to Russell bridge and resurfacing project. The open house will be held from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Pipestone County Government Center, 416 Hiawatha Ave. S.
There are no formal presentations and people are invited to stop by at their convenience during open house hours. MnDOT staff and the contractor will be available to answer questions about the construction phase of the project, including the timeline and detours.

Traffic impacts and project summary
Beginning June 3, MnDOT will be resurfacing Highway 23, from Pipestone to Russell. A culvert will be replaced near Florence, and culverts will be lined along the project corridor. In addition, the bridge deck east of the Hwy 23 and Highway 75 intersection in Pipestone will be replaced.
Portions of Highway 23 will be open to traffic from Pipestone to Russell during resurfacing. Two detours are required to complete the bridge projects (see attached maps).

  • The detour for the Pipestone bridge replacement begins Aug. 21 and will be in place until the project concludes Nov. 1.
  • Construction dates are subject to change depending on weather and other unforeseeable circumstances.
